The modern NBA has started to see a shift in team-building philosophy as teams are starting to realize that skilled big men who can score and defend the rim are the keys to winning at the highest levels.

For example, the 2024 NBA Finals feature the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics who have several bigs on their respective rosters that fill those two needs.

It also isn’t a coincidence that players like Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, and Victor Wembanyama are considered some of the best players in the league because of their versatility and defensive prowess.

Front offices are surely taking note and trying to load up on big men to keep pace with the other playoff teams around the league, though it’s much easier said than done.

One player who might’ve thrived in the current environment is Serge Ibaka who, at his peak, was an excellent shot blocker who was able to step out and space the floor a bit.

Ibaka has been playing overseas since his last NBA stop with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2022-23 NBA season and is slated to continue playing in Europe via FCB Basketball News.

“Serge Ibaka is signing a 1-year deal with Real Madrid to continue his basketball career overseas. Ibaka played last season for Bayern Munich in Germany.”

With how deep the NBA is, veteran players like Ibaka find themselves needing to play overseas to continue their professional careers.

By all accounts, Ibaka seems to be doing well for himself and should help Real Madrid next season.
