Odds Show A Clear Favorite To Be Hawks’ No. 1 Pick In Draft

The Atlanta Hawks shocked the league when they somehow ended up winning the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery.

Atlanta had a three percent chance to win the lottery and the No. 1 overall pick, leapfrogging teams like the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards who were the initial favorites to come away with the top selection.

The Hawks were expected to trade one of it’s star guards after another disappointing season, but winning the lottery changes the calculus for the front office.

Now, Atlanta can feasibly talk itself into going after another star player to pair with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray to try and turn the franchise around.

Trading the No. 1 overall pick should result in a haul for the Hawks, though the top of the draft isn’t as enticing as it has been in previous years.

However, if Atlanta ends up staying put then there’s a clear favorite to go first overall via Action Network.

Alex Sarr spent the past season in Australia playing for the NBL’s Perth Wildcats, showcasing his talents as a wing in a center’s body.

At 6’11”, Sarr’s got the ideal size and length to thrive in today’s NBA though it’s hard to project what he might be until he puts on more weight.

The biggest knock on Sarr’s candidacy as the top pick is his lack of perimeter shooting, though he can be an impact defender on day one for whoever drafts him.

Sarr is a worthy building block for a team like the Hawks, though it remains to be seen if they’ll stay put.
