The Los Angeles Lakers are officially in scramble mode.

With Dan Hurley turning down their massive offer, it seems like they’re going to have to pivot and hit the drawing board again.

Nonetheless, Shams Charania doesn’t feel that way.

In his latest appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” the renowned insider claimed that Hurley was never the Lakers’ No. 1 choice, adding that James Borrego and JJ Redick are still pretty much in play here (via NBACentral).

“He was not the #1 candidate to go and pursue from the start… At the end of the day – he chose to stay for $20M less at UConn”😬

The Lakers reportedly made Hurley a six-year offer worth a whopping $70 million.

They would’ve made him one of the six-highest-paid coaches in the game.

Moreover, not so long ago, Redick claimed that he would address Charania’s reports in due time.

Whatever the case, given the circumstances, Charania might end up being right all along if the Lakers are forced to go with Redick.

Reports state that Borrego is going to meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers as well, and the Lakers will be running out of feasible or proven candidates.

And with LeBron James’ free-agency decision also looming large, the clock is ticking for Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss, and they just can’t drop the ball this time.
