Social media has been entrenched in a heated debate over the last few days due to former NBA player Austin Rivers going on “The Pat McAfee Show” and sharing a take that there are at least 30 NBA players who could go play in the NFL right now, but that you could not find 30 NFL players capable of playing in the NBA.

It sparked a fun back-and-forth about which athletes would fare better in the opposite sport, and it’s perfect timing as one former NFL player just became the first former NFL guy to sign a professional basketball contract.

Insider Ari Meirov shared that former Carolina Panthers receiver Devin Funchess has signed a deal with the Caribbean Storm Llaneros of the Professional Colombia Basketball league.

It’s great that Funchess took Rivers’ take so personally and is taking it upon himself to represent the entire NFL family in a potential quest to prove Rivers wrong.

Funchess was a second-round pick by the Panthers in 2015 and hasn’t appeared in the NFL since playing one game for the Indianapolis Colts in 2019.

His best year was 2017 when he had 63 catches for 840 yards and eight touchdowns, so his falloff after such a solid season was surprising.
