The Philadelphia Eagles had nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, which followed up a busy free agency period, so there will be plenty of new faces in town as the team aims to get back to the Super Bowl after falling apart down the stretch last season and losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

At the end of minicamp, the team has now made one more signing official.

The Eagles’ team account on Twitter shared a picture of first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell signing his rookie contract, as the 22nd overall pick is now under team control through 2028.

Mitchell was the first cornerback selected by the Eagles in the first round since 2002 and his 52 combined ball disruptions in college (46 pass breakups and six interceptions) were the sixth-most among all corners drafted in the last decade.

He was the first back-to-back All-American in Toledo history and should have an opportunity to start right away.

Philly gave up the second-most passing yards per game last season at 252.7 per game, with only the Washington Commanders ranking worse, and the team responded by signing Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in free agency and letting Kevin Byard go.

The Eagles doubled down in the draft at the position and took Cooper DeJean out of Iowa to add to the secondary as well, so clearly it was a major priority to fix this pass defense.

Now that all the ink is dried, the team can leave minicamp and get back to offseason workouts ahead of training camp without any looming contracts hanging over their heads.
