The 2023-24 NBA season was a forgettable one for the Golden State Warriors, with the storied franchise failing to live up to expectations due to a number of different factors, including the play of veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson.

Thompson simply isn’t the same dominant force he once was on the basketball court compared to when he used to be one of the best two-way players in the NBA.

The four-time NBA champion came into the 2023-24 campaign without a contract extension and had an uncertain future ahead of him, as it was a prove-it season for the veteran guard.

Unfortunately, the only thing Thompson proved is that his best years are behind him and that the Warriors might finally move on from him this summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Although Thompson isn’t the same player he once was, he’ll still be an attractive option for teams around the league that need another scorer and elite shooter, with Austin Rivers of ESPN suggesting that the Philadelphia 76ers might be a good fit, via NBA on ESPN.

The 76ers were just eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the New York Knicks and clearly need another piece to the puzzle to compete with the best of the best in the league, as Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are not enough to get it done.

With Philadelphia having a considerable amount of cap space this summer, Thompson would be an intriguing target for them in free agency, even though he’s not the same player.
