The New England Patriots pulled the plug on the Mac Jones experiment.

It was about time, as even though they were partly to blame for how things panned out, it seemed like things would never work out between them.

Also, having the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft gave them the chance to start from scratch with quite a promising prospect.

They took Darke Maye out of UNC, and while he came with plenty of questions and doubts about whether his physical tools would translate to success as a pro, he was too physically gifted to be ignored.

As a matter of fact, NFL analyst Greg Cosell actually thinks he’s the ‘toolsiest’ quarterback in this class.

“I would argue he was the toolsiest quarterback in this Draft…some teams in this league had him as the #1 QB in the draft…”@GregCosell talking Pats rookie QB Drake Make on latest @RossTuckerPod: pic.twitter.com/EsHmaZqbkP

Talking on the Ross Tucker Podcast, Cosell stated that Maye looked like a very big dude, adding that he had the best physical tools among all prospects, which is why some teams actually had him at the top of their boards as QB.

Of course, he also claimed that his physical traits didn’t necessarily mean he would be a successful quarterback in the league, adding that he had plenty of work to do and things to polish in his game.

Most scouts agree that Maye needs to clean up plenty of things in his mechanics and footwork before being even close to being ready to take the field.

But if things work out and they’re patient with him and his development, it shouldn’t take long before he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
