The Golden State Warriors are facing quite a predicament as their aging and expensive roster is nowhere close to contending in the Western Conference.

While Stephen Curry remains one of the best players in the league, the rest of the NBA has gotten younger, more athletic and talented while the Warriors cling to an aging core.

Klay Thompson already appears to be on his way out after he and Golden State failed to reach an agreement on an extension during the 2023-24 NBA season.

Thompson’s departure signals the end of the core of the dynasty, though the Warriors could still use Chris Paul’s $30 million expiring deal to net back an impact player.

Golden State also has young players like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody to dangle in trades should the right piece become available.

The Warriors will seek any sort of improvements to the roster and they’re being linked to star players like Zach LaVine and Brandon Ingram via Jake Fischer of Yahoo.

“The options range across a spectrum of upside, from sending out picks for Brandon Ingram to potentially acquiring one with Zach LaVine, sources said. But if no deal emerges, and the Warriors indeed lose Klay Thompson as Golden State and league personnel currently believe will occur, the Warriors are considering their best option,” Fischer reported.

The Warriors could shift their focus to Zach LaVine or Brandon Ingram, per @JakeLFischer

LaVine and Ingram are two names expected to be moved this summer and each are a theoretical fit in Golden State should Thompson ultimately leave.

What it’ll take to pry them loose from the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls, respectively, remains to be seen but the Warriors aren’t going to be afraid to swing for the fences.
