The 2024 Paris Olympics are just a few weeks away, and, as usual, basketball will be one of the most watched sports.

Many expect Team USA to win the gold medal in men’s basketball, but the rest of the world has caught up to the United States to at least a certain extent, and if it falters a bit, a few other countries will have a shot at gold.

One of those other countries could be Canada, which won the bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a native of Toronto, will be leading the way for Canada, and he was seen enjoying himself at a recent practice, per NBA Canada.

Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the league’s rising stars, and this past season he averaged 30.1 points and 6.2 assists per game for the Thunder on their way to earning the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

He finished second behind Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in the voting for NBA MVP, and some thought he actually should’ve won the award.

Regardless of how Team Canada does in the upcoming Olympics, which begin later this month, Gilgeous-Alexander has a lot to look forward to in the 2024-25 NBA season.

This offseason, the Thunder traded up-and-coming guard Josh Giddey for gritty defensive ace Alex Caruso, a veteran who will perhaps be a better fit, and signed free agent center Isaiah Hartenstein to add some rebounding.

In addition, Jalen Williams is thought to have tons of room for improvement after putting up a very efficient 19.1 points per game this past season, and despite how young its roster is, Oklahoma City is already one of the NBA’s best defensive teams.
