Before the NBA Finals got underway on Thursday night, the Boston Celtics were the overwhelming favorite to win Game 1 at TD Garden and to win the seven-game series over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

Fortunately for Boston, the Celtics made easy work of the Mavericks in Game 1, as they were able to come out on top by 18 points, putting the storied franchise three wins away from raising an NBA record 18th championship banner in the rafters at TD Garden.

Although the Celtics showed why they are arguably the best team in the league in Game 1, avid bettors seem to be going with the Mavericks heading into Game 2 in Boston before the series shifts to Dallas for Game 3 and Game 4.

According to ESPN BET, 54% of bets are taking the Mavericks to beat the Celtics in Game 2 and even the series before the team heads to Texas for two games at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Ironically enough, the only two losses for the Celtics throughout the NBA playoffs thus far have been in Game 2, as Boston sports a record of 1-2 in those scenarios thus far, which obviously bodes well for Dallas on Sunday night.

As for the Mavericks, Doncic and company are a perfect 3-0 in Game 2 scenarios in the postseason, which is a telling stat and might be why bettors believe Dallas will even the series at one game apiece tonight.

The one thing to monitor heading into Game 2 is the health of Doncic, who has been listed as questionable.
