The Los Angeles Clippers only got Kawhi Leonard because of Paul George.

According to multiple reports, Leonard literally told the Clippers that he would only sign with them if they also traded for George, so he’s at least partially responsible for the loss of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

George and Leonard instantly became one of the strongest duos in the league, and they also bonded off the court.

That’s why it was only right that George reached out to him after he made his decision to leave the Clippers.

In the latest edition of Podcast P, the new member of the Philadelphia 76ers admitted that he owed it to Leonard to reach out to him and let him know his decision.

“I owed Kawhi that conversation … it was tough to leave him.”

Per George, Leonard gave him his blessing and understood that he needed to do what was best for him after conversations with the Clippers went south.

George added that leaving Kawhi was actually a big factor in his decision, as he didn’t want to turn his back on him because he grew to become a friend.

At the end of the day, however, the Clippers clearly didn’t hold the same value for the two of them, so everybody had to move in a different direction and do what was best for them.

Now, they’re going to square off against each other two times a year, assuming they’re both healthy enough to play, which was the only knock on them during their time together.
