Pacers Announce Contract Extension With Key Player

The Indiana Pacers made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2024 NBA Playoffs and enter the 2024-25 NBA season as a darkhorse to make it back there.

Led by stars Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam, the Pacers have a mix of youth, talent and athleticism to compete with the best teams in the league though they could use more depth to bolster their chances.

Indiana plays an exciting brand of basketball under head coach Rick Carlisle that features transition buckets and outside shooting, two key ingredients of any modern NBA offense.

However, what made the Pacers so special was their bench unit as they were able to routinely come in and sustain or even take leads when the starters needed a break.

One of the key pieces on the bench was Obi Toppin who turned himself into a legitimate role player after several up-and-down years with the New York Knicks.

Toppin is a restricted free agent this summer and has reportedly agreed to return to the Pacers on a four-year deal via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

“ESPN Sources: Restricted free agent F Obi Toppin intends to sign a four-year, $60 million contract to stay with the Indiana Pacers. Toppin emerged as a top bench contributor for the Eastern Conference finalists,” Wojnarowski reported.

$60 million for an athletic stretch-four like Toppin is a bargain for Indiana who was able to get the most out of him in spurts.

Toppin was quietly one of the best bench bigs in the league this past season and his return is a massive boost for the Pacers as they look to take the next step.
