After winning it all during the 2022-23 NBA season, and clearly cementing themselves as the best team in the league, the Denver Nuggets headed into the 2023-24 campaign with high hopes of pulling off the repeat while riding the dynamic duo of Jamal Murray and superstar Nikola Jokic.

Although the Nuggets were once again one of the best all-around teams in the league and dominated the competition in the Western Conference, Denver was unable to handle up-and-coming star Anthony Edwards and the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

Despite seeing their championship defense come to an end prematurely, the Nuggets are still widely considered to be an elite team in the West with years of contention left, as long as they can keep Murray and Jokic happy and surround themselves with talented players.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nuggets are already working on securing the long-term future of Murray in the Mile High City, with the team working on a four-year contract extension worth $209 million.

Denver and star Jamal Murray are working toward a four-year, $209 million maximum contract extension this offseason, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Nuggets will present the deal to Murray – a 2023 NBA champion and one of the best clutch players – and sides expect agreement.

Although Murray has had his fair share of injury issues over the past few years, there’s no doubting his talent and his fit playing alongside arguably the best player in the NBA.

Securing Murray’s long-term future with the team is a no-brainer as he is the perfect guard to play with Jokic and Denver, with a potentially bright future ahead filled with potential champion runs and the distinction of being one of the best teams in the league for many years to come.
