Nikola Jokic’s rise to NBA stardom has been as impressive as it’s been shocking.

He wasn’t a very well-known prospect and was literally sleeping when the Denver Nuggets took him late in the second round.

The Nuggets even faced some backlash when they moved on from Jusuf Nurkic to give Jokic more minutes.

Fast forward to today, and he’s now a three-time MVP, Finals MVP, NBA champion, and greatest passing big man of all time.

Nonetheless, we’ve seen how fast things can change in the league, and no one can beat Father Time.

That’s why, when asked about his future in the Association, Jokic admitted that he would only play for as long as he could contribute at the highest level (via Michael Scotto).

“I’m not going to take a spot from some young guy or put the franchise down. As long as I can play at the highest level and help the team win, I’m going to play until then,” Jokic said.

The reigning MVP claimed that he didn’t want to take a roster spot from a young player.

Jokic is just entering his prime, and he’s not an injury-prone player, so we shouldn’t even think about his retirement right now.

But as we’ve seen in the past, time flashes right before our eyes, and nothing is forever in sports.
