The Cleveland Cavaliers paid a steep price to get Donovan Mitchell.

They did so to one-up the New York Knicks and make sure to win the race for his services, even knowing he might not stay there for long.

For years, people have talked about whether Mitchell would sign a contract extension with the Cavaliers, with most signs pointing that it wouldn’t be the case.

However, it now seems like he’s ready to commit to The Land and stay there for years to come.

According to a report by Michael Scotto, there’s a league-wide belief that Mitchell will sign a contract extension with the Cavaliers this summer (via Evan Sidery).

Mitchell is one of the best playoff performers in the game, and he’s been the undisputed leader and best player since he was traded to Cleveland.

It seemed like he was poised to force his way off the team and that the Knicks would enter his sweepstakes again, but Tom Thibodeau’s team might now have to find a new target.

Should Mitchell stay, the Cavs will most likely have to find a trade partner for Darius Garland.

He hasn’t taken the next step in his development and there are questions about their fit together, and his camp would allegedly rather have him playing somewhere else if Mitchell isn’t traded.

Whatever the case, this should be an eventful offseason in Ohio.
