After forcing the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him in 2017, superstar guard Kyrie Irving left LeBron James behind to become the new face of the Boston Celtics franchise while joining forces with promising young stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The combination of these three players was thought to be lethal for Boston and exactly what the team needed to get back on track as a perennial title contender in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, things didn’t go as planned with Irving, as he didn’t fit in Boston, and despite promising to re-sign with the team, he chose to leave the storied franchise in favor of teaming up with Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.

Due to how Irving left the Celtics, there’s been some bad blood between the superstar guard and the fans in Boston, which has been seen in the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks trying to compete with arguably the best team in the league.

Ahead of Game 5 at TD Garden, Irving was asked what it is like to play for Boston, and he didn’t hold back with his comments via the Celtics on NBC Sports Boston.

“If any player is coming here… Do your homework, and make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into,” Irving said.

Even though Irving is an open book and never really shies away from speaking his mind, he might regret these comments due to the timing with the Mavericks trying to avoid being eliminated on Monday night in Boston.

Irving was already getting booed every time he touched the basketball in Boston during this series, and those boos might get even louder tomorrow when he tries to help lead this team to a second win in the series forcing a Game 6 back in Dallas.
