The New England Patriots have yet to find Tom Brady’s heir, or at least his successor.
Of course, measuring anyone to his standards would be setting him up for failure.
However, they need someone who can prove that he could be the franchise’s savior and new face.
Cam Newton wasn’t that guy, and Mac Jones couldn’t keep his foot on the gas either.
Now, they have Drake Maye as their new hope.
Maye isn’t likely to take the field next season, or at least early in the campaign.
Still, fortunately for the fan base and the organization, it seems like he might be a little ahead of schedule.
Recently, veteran QB Jacoby Brissett revealed that Maye has progressed ‘tremendously’ since arriving in Foxboro (Via Around the NFL):
“Oh, definitely. Tremendously. Every day he’s getting better,” Brissett said of Maye, via MassLive. “The good thing about it is, it’s not like ‘Oh, I got it right now.’ He’s just constantly trying to find ways to get better. Making some nice throws out there and you’re seeing his progression come alive.”

The Patriots brought back Brissett to be their stopgap at the quarterback position, knowing he would gladly embrace a mentorship role and that he could still give them some solid production on the field.
Maye has elite physical traits and tools, but there were major concerns about his mechanics and footwork, and those things need time to improve.
Even so, there have been positive reports about Maye’s work ethic and determination to get better, and he’s reportedly dug deep into the film room.
The Patriots must be patient with their new franchise quarterback.
They’re not used to being down for so long, but it’s all for the greater good, and Maye has the potential to lead them right back to the mountaintop if developed properly.
