More often than not, conversations about the NBA are focused on players.

People talk about how players fall short or exceed expectations, or how teams need to add X or Y players to a certain team to improve the roster, or which team would be a better fit for any given player.

Nonetheless, coaching also plays a huge part in a team’s success.

With that in mind, Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem asked Caron Butler to share his list of the five best coaches in the NBA right now (via The OGs Show).

Right off the bat, the former NBA forward chose Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who’s drawn a reputation for being one of the savviest tacticians in the game, constantly managing to compete despite not having as much talent as other teams.

Gregg Popovich got the nod next, which is far from surprising, considering that he’s been in charge of one of the winningest franchises in NBA history for quite a while.

Then, he chose Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, who quickly made a name for himself for his ability to make adjustments, both in-game and in-series.

Jason Kidd has made big strides since the early days of his coaching career, which is why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him make the cut as well.

Then, despite some questionable decisions during this postseason run, he chose Rick Carlisle of the Indiana Pacers, who he knows pretty well from their days together with the Dallas Mavericks.
