Last week, a bombshell report was dropped by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski about the Los Angeles Lakers’ search for a new head coach to replace the recently fired Darvin Ham, who returned to the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant under Doc Rivers on Monday.

All signs had been pointing at the Lakers set to hire former NBA player and current ESPN analyst JJ Redick, as he had reportedly given the team’s brass Pat Riley vibes.

Unfortunately for Redick, things changed drastically last Thursday, with Wojnarowski reporting that the Lakers were aggressively pursuing UConn’s Dan Hurley to be their next head coach, which came out of nowhere.

However, on Monday, Hurley made the announcement that he had turned down the six-year, $70 million offer from the Lakers to return to the Huskies in an attempt to win a third straight National Championship on the college level.

This has left the Lakers scrambling as it is unclear what the team will do moving forward, but many anticipate they’ll revert to targeting Redick, which gained some steam on Tuesday with he and LeBron James canceling an episode of their “Mind The Game” podcast.

A programming update for this week. 👇

Here are a few fan reactions to the news that there won’t be a new podcast released this week from James and Redick:

Job interview coming up ???

What happened?

Running out of content already?

No new games for the finals to react to yet since last episode.

Even though all the speculation points to Redick interviewing with the Lakers and potentially taking his first coaching job in the NBA or anywhere else, the former sharpshooter also has to cover the rest of the NBA Finals, which can make it tough to record a podcast.

It will be interesting to see whether Redick re-emerges as the favorite in this coaching search for the Lakers and if he’ll take the job after finishing his obligation to cover the Finals for ESPN.
