The first big trade of the 2024 NBA offseason went down on Thursday when the Chicago Bulls sent guard Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder for forward Josh Giddey.

This deal could help the Thunder take the next step toward becoming a true championship contender after they finished with the best record in the Western Conference this season, only to lose in the second round of the playoffs to the Dallas Mavericks.

Fans on Twitter feel this is a very good deal for the Thunder.

Wow. Caruso will be a perfect fit for OKC. And Giddey’s youth makes way more sense for the Bulls, plus a nice fit with White. Mutually beneficial. Great deal.

Caruso is a two-time All-Defensive team selection, and he has improved his 3-point shooting over the last few seasons.

Two seasons ago, he made just 33.3 percent of his 3-point attempts, but this year, he was a strong 40.8 percent from that distance.

The Thunder are one of the NBA’s youngest teams, but Caruso, who is 30 years of age, will bring them some valuable experience, including playing on a team that won the world championship.

Meanwhile, the Bulls, who have been stuck in the middle over the last couple of years as a play-in tournament team, could be poised to hit the proverbial reset button and start to rebuild.

Two-time All-Star guard Zach LaVine has seen his name come up consistently in trade rumors for some time now, while six-time All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan is about to become a free agent.
