For many seasons, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson teamed up on the Golden State Warriors to form one of the NBA’s greatest starting backcourts of all time and its deadliest outside shooting duo ever.

The tandem was dubbed the “Splash Brothers,” but now, Thompson is heading to the Dallas Mavericks, and sharpshooter Buddy Hield will be replacing him.

On social media, Overtime dubbed the new duo of Curry and Hield the “Splash Buddies.”

“Splash Buddies” may not have the same ring or coolness factor as “Splash Brothers,” but the Warriors are hoping this new duo will be very successful.

It will be hard to match the results of Curry and Thompson, who led the franchise to four NBA championships in eight seasons, but Hield could prove to be a decent substitute for Thompson.

Hield has made 40.0 percent of his 3-point attempts in his NBA career while averaging 7.6 3-point attempts per game, and although he isn’t as much of an overall offensive threat as Thompson was in his prime, he can still fill up the basket on the regular.

Golden State missed the playoffs this past season, but there are reasons for hope, as young prospects such as Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody showed improvement, while rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis did well and earned spots in head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation.

A strong season from Hield, as well as continued improvement from the aforementioned young players, could result in Golden State doing a little bit better during the 2024-25 NBA campaign.
