The Atlanta Hawks entered the offseason as one of the most interesting teams to monitor as they face a pivotal decision.
Atlanta was bounced out of the Play-In Tournament in embarrassing fashion by the Chicago Bulls, a clear indication that the team is far from competing in the Eastern Conference.
Despite their star backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, the Hawks need to shake things up and improve the roster in several areas before they can get back to being a playoff threat.
The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery came and went and the Hawks somehow defied the odds and won the rights to the No. 1 overall pick.
Although this year’s draft doesn’t contain an obvious star player at the top, this is still a massive development for Atlanta who’s never won the lottery before.
Shortly after the results of the lottery were announced, fans came to the same conclusion via NBA Central.

For the past year, Young’s felt like the most likely superstar to be moved given the team’s shortcomings the past few years.
Young is one of the best offensive guards in the league because of his shooting, scoring, and playmaking ability but his defensive limitations have hurt his trade value.
However, Atlanta should feel more confident about moving off it’s franchise player now that they can add another high-end talent via the draft.
Perhaps the Hawks go in the other direction and shop the top pick for another star, but they’d be better served seeing what they could get for Young in a trade.
