The Los Angeles Lakers recently made the massive move to hire former NBA player and analyst JJ Redick to be the team’s next head coach.

His contract will go on for the next four years.

Many different pundits and media members have had their takes on this decision by Los Angeles, and Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd came at it from a different angle.

“This roster was built for Darvin Ham…It is not built for JJ Redick, and I think there’s a trade partner…Think about Oklahoma City…They don’t have enough girth…With AD, SGA and Chet, you can give yourself a shot,” Cowherd recently said on The Herd.

Cowherd clearly does not believe Redick can coach this Lakers team to a high enough level that they can be championship contenders.

Perhaps he believes that Redick, at 39, cannot lead Lebron James, who is also 39, and Anthony Davis, who is moving toward the backend of his prime at 31.

The Lakers made this hire knowing that Redick and James are good friends.

After all, they co-hosted a podcast together last season called Mind the Game.

If James is in the fold with Redick, it would be hard to believe they would trade away a future Hall of Fame big man in Davis.

Look for Redick and the Lakers to build around these players for the next few years.

This is a team that has only won one championship in 14 years, and when you are the Los Angeles Lakers, that is unacceptable.
