Colin Cowherd Believes NBA Players Are Not Rooting For Nikola Jokic

On Wednesday evening, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets was honored with his third MVP trophy in four seasons.

This is a major accomplishment for the future Hall of Famer and yet another sign that Jokic is perhaps the best player in the world.

Loads of praise came pouring in for Jokic after he earned the trophy but Colin Cowherd isn’t sure how many other NBA stars are really happy to see him win.

On his show, he said, “I don’t think current or former NBA players were rooting for Jokic to win three MVPs in four seasons.”

Cowherd claimed that other league members aren’t pleased with the aesthetic of Jokic’s game and would much rather see a player with the sort of attitude and style of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Anthony Edwards be named Most Valuable Player.

There is no doubt that Jokic has a style all his own and doesn’t look or play like many legendary icons who have come before him.

Cowherd said that young kids growing up likely aren’t modeling their games after Jokic and there may be truth to that because he doesn’t perform with the sort of pizzazz that they see from others.

Still, his greatness cannot be questioned.

Regardless of his MVPs, Jokic is now a champion and averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9 assists in 2023–24.

Some people may be uncomfortable with the idea of Jokic’s signature kind of playing representing the league, but that’s just the honest nature of the NBA right now.

Even if people weren’t rooting for him to win, they have to tip their caps to Jokic and acknowledge his superior skills.
