Shortly after the eventual NBA champions, Boston Celtics, had eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the NBA playoffs, the team’s brass made a decision on what to do with head coach JB Bickerstaff, as there had been speculation he could be on his way out.

Although Bickerstaff expressed a desire to remain with the team after the 2023-24 campaign, the Cavaliers believed it was time to part ways in hopes of potentially upgrading the head coaching position in Cleveland.

Bickerstaff didn’t stay unemployed for long as he was recently hired by the Detroit Pistons to be the successor to Monty Williams, who was shockingly fired after only one season with the struggling franchise.

With the Cavaliers having one of the most desirable head coaching vacancies in the league, Cleveland was connected to several intriguing candidates, with James Borrego arguably at the top of the team’s list of options to replace Bickerstaff.

However, the team ended up going with former Golden State Warriors assistant under Steve Kerr, Kenny Atkinson, to be the new leader on the sideline in Cleveland, and it appears he’s already gotten to work on filling out his coaching staff.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Cavaliers have hired former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jordan Ott to join Atkinson’s staff.

Jordan Ott has agreed to join Kenny Atkinson’s new Cleveland Cavaliers staff as an assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. Ott spent the past two seasons on the Lakers’ staff and emerged as a finalist in the Charlotte Hornets’ head coaching process.

Although Ott isn’t a household name and still has much to prove as an assistant in the NBA, he’s a solid addition to Atkinson’s staff.

Ott could make a name for himself in Cleveland if he’s able to help Atkinson get the best out of Donovan Mitchell and company while being a potential title contender in the East.
