Analyst Reveals When Dan Hurley Is Expected To Make His Decision

All signs pointed to the Los Angeles Lakers hiring JJ Redick to be Darvin Ham’s successor as head coach, with the team having to wait until after the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks before he could put pen to paper due to his ESPN obligation.

Unfortunately for Redick, that narrative has changed entirely over the last few days, with UConn’s Dan Hurley emerging as the team’s top target all along, as the storied franchise is rumored to have offered the Huskies head coach $100 million guaranteed over the next eight years.

Although Hurley reportedly met with the Lakers brass on Friday, no deal between the two sides has come to fruition and been finalized, as he is supposedly taking the weekend to make his decision.

According to Evan Sidery of Forbes, Hurley’s decision on whether to take the job in Los Angeles or return to UConn for a chance to win three straight National Championships will occur within the next 24 hours.

A decision from Dan Hurley on whether he’s taking the Lakers job or staying at UConn is expected to occur within the next 24 hours.

Hurley met with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka in Los Angeles this weekend.

If Hurley accepts, he would become one of the NBA’s highest paid coaches.

At this point, it seems impossible to tell whether Hurley is leaning toward becoming the Lakers’ next head coach or returning to the Huskies, where he’s been incredibly successful and arguably the best head coach in college basketball.

If Hurley takes the job, his next order of business will be filling out his coaching staff in Los Angeles, where he might hire Luke Murray as an assistant.

In the event Hurley passes on the opportunity to make the jump to the NBA, the Lakers will have to quickly pivot back to Redick or extend their search for a new leader on the sideline.
